The Shinmeisha Shrine is located next to the Shiroishi Castle ruins once belonged to the feudal lord, Katakura Kojuro. Inside the city of Shiroishi
In Masuoka Park, at a corner looking up at a corner of Shiroishi Castle lies the Shinmeisha Shrine that has been a part of Shiroishi history since ancient times.
The Shinmeisha Shrine is established in 807. The shrine was originally located in another part of Shiroishi. However, due the loss of the main building of the shrine due to repeated fire incidents, the shrine is relocated to its current location in 1900. The main deity enshrined here is Amaterasu Oomikami. The deity is enshrined together by Date Masamune and Katakura Kojuro Kagetsuna and is also known by people from both in and outside of the prefecture.
The Sato Clan that served as chief priests for generations once served as Katakura Clan vassals. The people of castle town of Shiroishi Castle and the Katakura Clan depended on each other and this is shown in history.There is also the Tenmangu Shrine on the shrine premise. The Tenmangu Shrine is a division of Kyoto Kitano Tenmangu Shrine tutelary deity. The deity enshrined here is the deity of knowledge, Ancestral Deity - Sugawara no Michizane. Many people including students and families visit Shinmeisha Shrine. The solemn and frigid appearance of Shinmeisha Shrine is a place that makes you feel like your heart is purified and at the same time makes you want to visit at every turning point in your life.
