【Zuishuzan-Enmeiji Temple】Shingon Buddhism Chisan sect
During your visit to Enmeiji Temple, the first thing that comes into sight is the Umayaguchimon Gate of Shiroishi Castle. The Umayaguchimon Gate was dismantled and reconstructed in the current location during Meiji Era. Although the Umayaguchimon Gate is the gate to Umayakuruwa, this particular gate at Shiroishi Castle is designed with a large square space on the second floor, and on both sides and its lower floor is an interval space. The interval space is intended as a gap in the wall for the purpose of firing arrows and cannons. From the design of the gate, it is not hard to see that the design is meant to strengthen the defense to protect the inner citadel from enemies approaching form the northern side of the temple, Moreover, one of the prominent enemies that resides in the northern area of Shiroishi in the era of Uesugi and Gamou is the Date Clan. The Umayaguchimon Gate that is at the current entrance of the road leading to the Shinmeisha is said to have served as “Ootemon Gate” in the later period. On the premise there is a Korori Jizo statue. Enmeiji Temple is located near the train station and is one of the temples that many tourists visit.
